September - Teviot Teddies
Debbie is the daughter of an arctophile* and she made her first teddy for her mother's Christmas in 2014. Watching him evolve as she sewed his head, limbs and body, assembled him and finally crafted his unique little face was an absolute joy. She felt she knew him inside and out.
As quickly as possible, she then ordered the necessary materials to make another. And another.
She was bitten by the bear bug!
Debbie loves that the making process hasn’t changed since teddy bears were first made and that the end result brings joy to the faces of everyone who sees them. She likes to incorporate tweeds from the Scottish Borders to give her bears some roots and a nod to where they are created and sometimes, she can’t resist some Liberty prints here and there.
Every Teviot Teddy is made by hand and it’s a slow process. There are endless possibilities and combinations of mohairs, tweeds, eyes, and threads for faces, so every bear is different and has its own unique character. Debbie believes that’s why she never gets bored and she’s always excited to start creating the next one.
*arctophile: a person who loves or collects teddy bears (it may be hereditary?!)
